It is believed that ovulation is the best time to do an intercourse. Doing an intercourse during ovulation will make it an advantage to you since it coincides with the release of a healthy mature egg from the ovaries. Though doing an intercourse during ovulation can bring the best benefit, not all of you know the exact time of ovulation and how to read the signs. Knowing that there is a close relationship between ovulation and getting pregnant, you really need some basic knowledge related to both of them.
Commonly, ovulation occurs 14 days after your last period. If you have 28 days menstrual cycles, you will probably have your ovulation as the specified time. In fact, your actual menstrual cycles might be longer or even shorter than the specified. This will not become a big problem if you know the signs of ovulation.
It is said that there will be an increase in your body’s basal temperature for about 0.2 degrees as you ovulate. Do not let the increase in your body’s basal temperature go unnoticed since it might be the sign of ovulation. If it continues to increase for about ten days, you are more likely to ovulate.
Though an increase in the body basal temperature is the sign of ovulation, you still need other signs to confirm that you ovulate. Another sign is the changes in cervical mucus. As you ovulate, the cervix produces sufficient mucus. The amount of cervical mucus increases and the mucus becomes thinner, transparent and stretchy.
To know the changes in cervical mucus, you can use your finger. Avoid using toilet papers since it can absorb the moisture of your vagina as well the mucus. To differentiate cervical mucus from vaginal secretion, dip it into the water. You will see that cervical mucus forms a blob in water and sinks, while vaginal secretion dissolves.
The last sign you have to know is the position of your cervix. The cervix is moving forward to the opening of vagina as you ovulate. The cervix is slightly open and softer to touch. As you touch the cervix, it feels like touching your ear lobe. When you find all of the signs mentioned above, you can start doing an intercourse to get pregnant. However, you have to avoid doing it in excess to give some time to the sperm to replenish.
Most doctors agree that doing it two days before and on the day of ovulation can make it an advantage to you. Therefore, it is important to reschedule the time of doing an intercourse as well as the frequency to increase the odds of getting conception in any given month.
